Richard Keys takes another dig at Wout Weghorst and claims that Man United is efficacious playing with 10 men with the striker from the Netherlands in the team. Man United signed Weghorst on loan in January from Burnley after releasing Cristiano Ronaldo, the superstar during World Cup.
He fared better on loan at Besiktas before his move to Old Trafford, scoring 8 goals and offering 4 assists in 16 league games. In Manchester United, Weghorst has been a mainstay team since he arrived in England the previous month but has just scored 1 goal in 10 appearances for Manchester United. Continue reading
Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have not reported to training, sparking concerns over their participation in the derby against Manchester City this weekend. The pair have been unable to train the Red Devils this week, which suggests they have not recovered fully from their injuries. Rashford has been sidelined since the 3-1 victory over Arsenal due to a hamstring injury.
It was expected that the English forward could use the international break to regain full fitness and return in time for the derby. However, that appears not to be the case. Martial has been out of action for over a month with an Achilles injury. A report from the Times also suggests that the duo will miss out this weekend. Rashford’s absence would be a huge blow as he has earned the reputation as a big game player, highlighted by his impressive performances this season. Continue reading
According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Manchester United will have the chance to sign Marco Asensio before the summer transfer window shuts down. The Spanish wide man has entered the final year of his contract, with Real Madrid demanding €30 million to part ways with him this year.
Marco Asensio has long been among Europe’s most promising young wide attackers. But he has not always translated the potential into consistent performances, although he reversed the tide last season, finishing the 2021/22 campaign as Real Madrid’s third-highest scorer behind Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior. Frenchman Anthony Martial was able to maintain his perfect scoring record in pre-season this summer after he was on target for Manchester United in the 3-1 win over Premier League rivals Crystal Palace. The Palace game was part of the pre-season friendlies lined up by Manchester United ahead of the new season. Martial had a record of two goals in two games before the game against Crystal Palace.
Martial has seized the opportunity to lead the line for Manchester United on their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo. Portuguese superstar Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United this summer for a club in the Champions League. To this effect, he was absent for the club’s tour of Australia and Asia though the official statement was that the ex-Sporting Lisbon and Real Madrid attacker missed out due to a family reason. West Ham are reportedly plotting a move for Manchester United youngster Di’Shon Bernard, who is currently on loan at Hull City. The Hammers have been linked with a number of defenders of late. Indeed, their need for more depth in the area has been apparent this season. Injuries to Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma have placed added responsibility on the shoulders of Craig Dawson and Issa Diop.
While West Ham have continued to perform, having more options could not have hurt. Indeed, Dawson and Diop are the only senior centre-backs to have been available for a good portion of the season. The Hammers have both established themselves as top-four contenders and gone on a long European run. They advanced to the semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday night when dismantling Lyon on their own turf. Continue reading
North London side Tottenham Hotspur have moved ahead of Manchester United on the league table after their London Derby victory over West Ham United on Sunday evening. Spurs knew before the game that they had the chance to make a significant push towards fourth spot by beating fellow London team West Ham United at home to secure fifth spot and they did just that.
Tottenham Hotspur established a 2-1 lead at the half-time break after Algerian star Said Benrahma halved the two-goal deficit given to the home team by Kurt Zouma(own goal) and Son Heung-Min off the assists from star striker Harry Kane. South Korean international Son then completed his brace in the second half to seal the result for his team. Continue reading
Manchester United can make it two wins in a row on the Premier League stage if they beat fellow top-four chasers West Ham United at home this weekend. West Ham United and Manchester United are two of several teams fighting for a Champions League spot ahead of the next season. Only a place in the top-four will guarantee Champions League football next season apart from winning the Europa League and the Champions League. The London trio of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also in the fight for a top-four spot.
Manchester United have recovered well from the disappointment of losing their first game of this year at the hands of Wolves in the league. The Red Devils were beaten 1-0 at home by Wolves with veteran Portugal international Joao Moutinho getting the winner eight minutes from time. The home loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers was followed by the 1-0 home victory over Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round thanks to the first half goal from Scott McTominay.
Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw was unable to feature for England in their final two Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers as they were able to book a place at the tournament as reward for winning Group I.
Shaw was one of two left-backs invited to the latest England squad ahead of the final two qualifiers against Albania and San Marino alongside Chelsea player Ben Chilwell. However, the Manchester United star could not play a single minute for England as a result of the concussion suffered towards the end of the Manchester Derby clash with Manchester City in the Premier League just before the current international break. Shaw could not save Manchester United from a 2-0 defeat at home to their city rivals.
