Manchester United played out a stalemate with arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford this weekend with Manchester United welcoming fierce rivals Liverpool on Sunday. Whilst the highly-anticipated fixture was devoid of goal, it was dominated by Injury forced substitution, particularly in the first half of the tie.
The tie produced three first-half substitutions for United, while the reds made one. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was forced to make tactical switches upon tactical switches in what was one of the biggest challenge to his credentials to steer Manchester United in the long-term.
Rio Ferdinand doesn’t think there is any possibility of Manchester United going anywhere close to the silverware either domestically or in Europe this season. The 40-year old, who featured for Manchester United more than 300 times in the Premiership, rates Manchester City and Liverpool as the two strongest sides in England at the moment.
Ferdinand reckons City will emerge the victorious in the English top tier. It will not be an easy ride for them and they will have to face a tough fight for it, but they eventually will be able to secure the top spot at the end. As far as Europe is concerned, Liverpool has a great chance there and so has City. There is actually the possibility of both these teams locking horns in the final of the tournament, the kind of resources they possess.
The last couple of games in the premiership haven’t been great for Manchester United from the results’ point of view. First of all, they visited the Etihad Stadium ahead of the international break and received an absolute thumping at the hands of City and then they had to remain satisfied with just one point playing at home against a struggling Palace side which had not won any games for the last 9 weeks and was not too far away from the relegation zone.
It was as poor a result for United as they got at City even though it was not a defeat. Playing at home against a side like Palace which has much inferior resources and which doesn’t have any momentum coming into the game and not to be able to win, it’s a seriously poor result.
Jose Mourinho will not face a penalty from the football club, as it has no proof that he swore in Portuguese during Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Newcastle on October 6th. A statement from the FA read: “An accusation of Jose Mourinho for allegedly using language that was abusive and/or abusive and/or incorrect has been found not proved following an independent legislative commission’s hearing today.
“It related to an event at the end of Manchester United against Newcastle United played on October 6, 2018. Written reasons for the decision of the Independent Legislative Commission will be published on time. This decision may be appealed.” The Newcastle match was played with rumors that Mourinho faced chopping regardless of the outcome. After being 2-0 down half past six, United finally won the match 3-2.
The team of Manchester United has spent minimal time in the final third as an opposition in compare to any other Premier League club all through this season. So, we are examining the attacking problems of Jose Mourinho here.
“I had anticipated the Premier League will conclude quickly. But it got to hear from my teammates that this is always the kind of game you get to play against United. United like to keep it slow.”
Barcelona are seeking a replacement for outgoing midfield maestro Andres Iniesta. The La Liga champs are understood to be scouting Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen. This summer the priority seems to be the signature of Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid to boost the attack.
The plan for Barca is to get Eriksen to support the weakening midfield compartment after Iniesta moved to Japan to play for Vissel Kobe. The Spaniard is one of the most decorated players in modern football history. He is expected to see off his illustrious career in Japan. Hence, Eriksen is the identified man to fill the void.
Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs claims that Marcus Rashford will be able to emulate the achievements of Thierry Henry at Arsenal.
The Frenchman is regarded as one of the greatest strikers in the history of the Premier league, and he is the record goalscorer for Arsenal. A number of players have been compared with the Arsenal great, and Marcus Rashford is amongst the latest. Manchester United also have another player in the ranks who is similar toHenry – Anthony Martial. Yet, the failings ofMartial in the last few years has led to suggestions that Rashford will be the player capable of stepping into the shoes of Henry.
Giggs has played with Henry on numerous occasions and he has given the highest possible praise for Rashford, who recently scored in the 2-0 win over Leicester City. Even though he has been overshadowed since the arrival of big-money signings like Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic, the goal against Leicester City once again demonstrated the importance of Rashford, who is one of the last major players to come from the youth set up at Manchester United. One of the reasons for Rashford being compared with Henry is the use of his services in a wide role rather than in a central position. Henry scored most of his goals from this position. When Sir Alex Ferguson came to know that Jonny Evans was going to West Bromwich Albion, he found it hard to believe as he had thought that the Irish defender’s career would finish at Old Trafford or if not that, he would leave only one or two seasons before retiring, but, much to the surprise of the legendary coach, Evans left with substantial amount of Football still left in him.
Sir Alex didn’t make any public statement regarding Evans’ departure, but, Michael O’Neill who coaches Evans at the international level has recently disclosed that last year when Sir Alex met him at an event organised for the coaches, the Scot told him that the decision of the United management of letting Evans go caught him by extreme surprise.
However, O’Neill reckons that one can understand why the Red Devils’ management would have made such a call. First of all, they already had two players to play in that position in the form of Ferdinand and Vidic and secondly, it was a time when Evans was having injury issues too frequently. Continue reading
This debut season of Jose Mourinho as the head coach of Manchester United is certainly not going how the Portuguese manager wanted it to, as the Red Devils are not going to become the new champions of England and will not be securing the 2nd spot either as the table toppers Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are just too far ahead.
Manchester United was also knocked out of the FA Cup competition after losing against Chelsea in the quarter-finals as they faced off on March 13.
Even though Jose Mourinho has lifted the FA Community Shield and the EFL Cup in his 1st season in charge of Manchester United, this season is still widely considered to be an underwhelming one as the bigger competitions such as the Premier League and the FA Cup has been a completely different story.
Paul Pogba has been a huge disappointment as the French youngster has only scored 4 league goals in 29 Premier League appearances which is extremely unsatisfying for a player that cost Manchester United £89.3 million and ZlatanIbrahimovic picked up an injury that will be leaving him out of the pitch for 8 months. Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney is insisting on remaining at Old Trafford in light of speculations that his agent has made contact with Chinese sides for a possible move during the summer.
The star player revealed that he would remain at the club, effectively killing speculations about a transfer this year.
“Despite the interest which has been shown from other clubs, for which I’m grateful, I want to end recent speculation and say that I am staying at Manchester United. I hope I will play a full part in helping the team in its fight for success on four fronts. It’s an exciting time at the club and I want to remain a part of it,” the statement read.
Rooney recently became the record goalscorer for the English club but lacking play time motivated the speculations that he could leave. His career is winding down and a redundancy is not helping matters. However, going by this statement he would spend the rest of the season and likely next years in Manchester. Continue reading
